Premier Training Centre in the Region

The Caribbean Fisheries Training and Development Institute (CFTDl) is the leading Institute in Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean with the capacity to deliver information and training in the area of Fish Processing Technology. This is accomplished through its Fish Processing Unit, which offers training and skills development to individuals in the fish and fish processing industry. The unit is also involved in the development of new fish products, conducting suitability trials using species of fish and shellfish available in the region.

Modern Facilities

The facilities of the Fish Processing Unit have been sized at the level of cottage to medium size plant. lt comprises a fully equipped Receiving Area, Processing Hall, Packaging Room, Product Development Area, Fish Smoking Room, Sensory Evaluation Laboratory and a Test Kitchen. In addition, the facilities conform to the required health and sanitary standards in accordance with the Fish and Fish Products Regulations (1998) of Trinidad and Tobago and The FAO/WHO Codex Alimentarius Commission.

Competent Staff

The staff includes a Technical Instructor, a Research and Development Officer, a Senior Fish Processing Assistant and four Processing Assistants.
