COURSE TITLE
Coastal Navigation for Vessels up to 500GRT (Gross Register Tonnage)
SCOPE
The aim of this course is to teach the basic principles of navigation and provide fundamental knowledge on the subject.

Any person who is interested in pursuing a career at sea will benefit from this course.
DURATION & DELIVERY
Duration of this course is 8 weeks and classes are from 8:00am to 4:00pm, 5 days a week. A combination of lectures, demonstrations, videos and practical training aboard an open vessel is used in order to deliver this course.
OBJECTIVES
The objective of this course is to train individuals to safely navigate a vessel of 500 GRT and less in coastal waters, and also be able to form part of a navigational watch.

ENTRY REQUIRMENTS
- Must be medically fit with good eyesight
- Must not be less than eighteen years of age
- Must have basic academic qualification (English, Mathematics, Geography) at the GCE/CXC ordinary/proficiency level
No knowledge of navigation is needed prior to entry
COURSE CERTIFICATE
Sudents who have been successful in the examination (theory and practical) will be granted a Certificate of Proficiency in Coastal Navigation for vessels up to 500 GRT sailing in coastal waters. This course is accredited by the International Maritime Organisation.
